Austria’s unemployment rate held steady at 6.9% in July 2026 compared with the previous month, but was slightly higher than the 6.7% recorded in July 2025. The total number of unemployed people increased by 8,917 year-on-year to 298,885.

By gender, the unemployment rate for women rose by 0.3 percentage points to 6.9%, with the number of unemployed women up by 8,038 to 142,244. In contrast, the unemployment rate for men and other genders was largely unchanged at 6.8%, although the number of unemployed in this group grew by 879 to 156,641.

Dependent employment expanded by 9,000 compared with a year earlier, reaching 4,044,000. Employment among women increased by 6,000 to 1,901,000, while employment among men and other genders rose by 3,000 to 2,143,000.

When participants in training measures are included, the total number of unemployed individuals and people enrolled in labour market programmes stood at 364,202, an increase of 4,828 from the previous year.
